Another invaluable tool is first-hand accounts of historical events, many of which are on the Net. For instance, my paternal ancestors were from Marion, S.C. It was most interesting to find a remembered account of Sherman's march and how close residents of Marion County came to being visited by his army. Only high waters and difficulty crossing the river saved them. Residents had already taken their cows and hogs to hide in the swamps--they were taking no chances. I can imagine the fear my ancestors must have felt at that time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7579464233693582794.post-43073159928581027222010-06-30T08:45:00.634-07:002010-06-30T08:45:00.634-07:00Thanks to the help of Google Maps, it appears the ...Thanks to the help of Google Maps, it appears the mystery island is Borkum.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03694688428917974294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7579464233693582794.post-23265249998250836912010-06-25T15:15:39.690-07:002010-06-25T15:15:39.690-07:00I am going to say either Læsø, Denmark or Guernsey...I am going to say either Læsø, Denmark or Guernsey.Jean de Burenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05111413410387940080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7579464233693582794.post-14367807943807986642010-06-25T12:19:36.549-07:002010-06-25T12:19:36.549-07:00Oooh, Netherlands is really close!Oooh, Netherlands is really close!Adriennehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03267080742215460829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7579464233693582794.post-75522056509045995242010-06-25T11:22:24.783-07:002010-06-25T11:22:24.783-07:00Tahiti or one of the Tahitian islands.Tahiti or one of the Tahitian islands.Chris Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03650114054218099196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7579464233693582794.post-3155704585257320552010-06-25T10:51:12.684-07:002010-06-25T10:51:12.684-07:00Is this in the Netherlands? Is this in the Netherlands?David Balentinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04268493895139190895noreply@blogger.com
